Green Minds: Sustainability in Higher Education

John Pumilio became Colgate University's first Director of Sustainability in 2009. Prior to coming to Colgate, John's professional experience includes work for organizations such as the National Park Service, National Audubon Society, and Tauck World Discovery. For these organizations, John worked on the Florida Panther Recovery Project in the Everglades, guided tours through the Galapagos Islands (Ecuador) and Machu Picchu (Peru), led safaris in East Africa, guided hiking excursions throughout Alaska and British Columbia, completed breeding bird surveys on Hog Island, Maine, and conducted field research in the West Indies (Jamaica). In 2005, John officially began working in the field of sustainability trying to find a way for human communities to exist and prosper in harmony with ecological communities.
Randall Waymire is finishing his BS/MS this year in Chemical Engineering. Having gotten more involved with sustainability groups on campus, he is planning to work for Eastman Chemical Company doing work on life cycle assessments. With ESW, he has worked on the Tiny House project and was co-president of ESWNU in 2013-14. Outside of school, he plays Ultimate Frisbee and enjoys leading outdoors trips all around the country, especially in his home state of Colorado.
Keith Woodhouse is an assistant professor at Northwestern University in the Department of History specializing in environmental history, intellectual history, and history of the late-twentieth-century United States. He is currently working on a study of radical environmentalism. Keith was recently a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Southern California.
